Tawleef - توليف

“Tawleef” (“synthesis” or “to synthesize”, in Arabic), started as an idea for an alternative way of building and thinking about the music industry. 

The idea was to provide an alternative platform for local Palestinian artists, with a focus on women artists. The goal is to build an infrastructure that can become a self sustaining ecosystem for artists.

 In the case of Palestine, the challenge is layered because of the fragmentation of Palestinian society, movement restrictions between cities and Arab countries & the cultural isolation that results from this. 

This made us rethink the content being put out: what space is it creating or destroying? What/whose stories are being told? Who has access to these platforms? How can we build a space and platform we can all benefit from equally while also amplifying marginalized voices in the Palestinian community and challenge the socio-political status quo?

By creating space and offering resources & platforms, we can create the music we want to hear, we can tell the stories that have no place in the mainstream  narrative and we can offer a space for these artists to thrive, experiment and collaborate together to create the industry we want to see for ourselves.

"توليف" ، كلمة تعني المزج والتجميع ، بدأت كفكرة لطريقة بديلة للمساهمة في خلق وبناء صناعة الموسيقى. الفكرة كان أن نخلق منصة بديلة للفنانين / ات الفلسطينيين/ات مع التركيز على النساء منهن. الغاية منها  أن نساهم في خلق بنية تحتية للفنانين والفنانات، معتمدة على ذاتها ومستدامة.

في حالة فلسطين يصبح التحدي مركب بسبب واقع الشرذمة التي نعيشها كفلسطينيين ، ومحدودية الحركة والتنقل بين المدن الفلسطينية والدول العربية وما ينتج عنه من عزلة ثقافية تعيق من عملية التواصل الطبيعي. هذا الواقع جعلنا نفكر بعمق بمحتوى الفكرة من حيث ما هي المساحة التي نود أن نبنيها أو نهدمها ؟ ما هي القصص التي نود سردها ولمن ؟ ولمن كل هذه المنصات متاحة ؟

كيف يمكن أن نبني مساحة يستفيد منها الجميع بشكل عادل حتى نجعل أصوات الفنانين/ات الفلسطينيين/ات المهمشين/ات مسموعا كي نتحدى الواقع السياسي-الاجتماعي في فلسطين ونساهم في تغييره ؟

سيكون ذلك ممكنا من خلال خلق مساحة وفضاء مزود بالموارد والمنصات الضرورية ارتباطا برسالتنا وأهدافنا التي تمكننا أن ننتج الموسيقى التي نود سماعها، أن نروي القصص التي ليس لها مساحة في السردية العامة ، ومن خلال توفير مساحة  آمنة .للنمو والتطور والتعاون والتعلم والتجريب للفنانين والفنانات لنعمل معا ونصنع سوية المشاهد الموسيقية التي نرغب أن نراها
